King County Metro – Bus Tunnel Traffic Signal Custom LED replacement lamps
Projects # 1 and #2.
These were really my first 100% engineered and manufactured LED lamps.
King County Metro was having trouble finding replacement lamps,
on the bus-tunnel systems traffic control lights.
These traffic lights are in use throughout the whole tunnel system under downtown Seattle.
The lamps they had in place for the last 20 years, were modified projector lamps.
These lights were discontinued and they were running out of replacements fast.
They gave me one to study for awhile and over the next few months I
engineered them a new solution.
At first I thought I could just change the existing lamps with LEDs and call it good,
however after many attempts, that just didn’t work out. So eventually I ripped out
the old system all together, created a whole new lamp setup.
I called this aspect lamp the “Arch-Light” in dedication to Archie, the man who assisted me
through many processes to get this job and become a City of Seattle “Preferred Vendor”.
He unfortunately passed before the end of this project.
A few months later I was asked build a second type of lamp.
The first type, was a standard red, yellow, green type of traffic signal.
The second type I had made, was a red and white only version.
